Tal Barahi Temple
ताल बाराही मन्दिर, फेवा ताल
Pokhara Metropolitan City, Kaski, Gandaki Province

Overview
Tal Barahi sits on a small forested island in Phewa Lake, dedicated to Barahi (Varahi), a boar-headed manifestation of the protective mother goddess. Reached only by colourful wooden boats, it is the most photographed temple in Pokhara and a beloved local shrine framed by the Annapurna range.
Historical background
The island shrine has been a place of worship for generations and was developed into its present pagoda form in the modern era. It is integral to the religious life of lakeside Pokhara and a fixture of the city's tourism identity.
Cultural significance
Devotees cross the lake to offer worship and sacrifices to the goddess, particularly on Saturdays and during festivals. The temple and its boat pilgrimage are emblematic of Pokhara's blend of natural beauty and living faith.
Architectural details
A compact two-tiered pagoda with a gilded finial stands at the centre of the wooded islet, surrounded by a paved circumambulation and boat landing; its small scale and lake setting are central to its appeal.
Condition & conservation
Current condition: Active and very heavily visited
Maintained by a temple committee; lake pollution and crowding are the chief environmental concerns for the islet.
