Khaptad Baba Ashram & Tribeni Dham

Overview

On the high rolling grasslands of Khaptad — a plateau shared by Bajhang, Bajura, Achham and Doti — stand the ashram of the celebrated saint Khaptad Baba and the sacred confluence of Tribeni. The area combines spiritual retreat, a Shiva pilgrimage and one of the most striking cultural-natural landscapes of far-western Nepal.

Historical background

Khaptad Baba (Swami Sachchidananda) settled here in the mid-20th century, practising meditation and teaching for decades; his ashram became a place of pilgrimage and reflection. The Tribeni confluence and nearby shrines have older traditions of Shiva worship, with festivals held at full moon.

Cultural significance

Khaptad is a unique blend of ashram heritage, Hindu pilgrimage and protected high-altitude landscape; the Khaptad Baba ashram and Tribeni Dham draw pilgrims and seekers, especially during the Gangadashahara and Janai Purnima fairs.

Architectural details

The built heritage is modest — the saint's ashram huts, small shrines and the Tribeni temples — set within open meadows (patan) and forest; the cultural value lies in the sacred landscape rather than monumental structures.

Condition & conservation

Current condition: Active seasonal pilgrimage and retreat site

Within Khaptad National Park; protection balances the religious heritage with the fragile alpine ecosystem.

3D model coming soon

A 3D Gaussian Splat capture of Khaptad Baba Ashram & Tribeni Dham is planned. Our reference capture of the Chandeswori Temple is available in the viewer today.
