Badimalika Temple

Overview

Badimalika is a remote temple to the goddess Malika Bhagwati set on an alpine meadow at over 4,000 m in Bajura district, far-western Nepal. As one of the most important Shakti Peethas of the Sudurpashchim region, it draws thousands of pilgrims on an arduous high-mountain journey, especially for the Janai Purnima fair.

Historical background

The shrine is associated, like other Shakti Peethas, with the myth of the fall of the goddess Sati's body, and has been venerated for centuries by the communities of the far-western hills. Its inaccessibility has preserved a powerful tradition of seasonal pilgrimage.

Cultural significance

Badimalika is the pre-eminent goddess pilgrimage of far-western Nepal; the Badimalika fair at Janai Purnima gathers devotees from across the region and into India for worship on the high pasture.

Architectural details

The shrine is a simple stone structure on open alpine grassland, marked by tridents, bells and offerings rather than ornate building — its sanctity resting on the sacred high-mountain site and the demanding pilgrimage to reach it.

Condition & conservation

Current condition: Active seasonal high-altitude pilgrimage site

Managed by a local committee; extreme altitude, weather and remoteness shape both access and upkeep.

3D model coming soon

A 3D Gaussian Splat capture of Badimalika Temple is planned. Our reference capture of the Chandeswori Temple is available in the viewer today.
